The charging points are one of several new products designed specifically for the EV market and manufactured in the UK by Caravan Park Electrical Services Ltd who now maintain and manage the electrical services for all Caravan Club Sites throughout the UK.
The charging points add to the extensive facilities already offered at the Brighton site which also now provides tent facilities with socket outlets provided by CPES Ltd..
At the launch of the new charging points The Caravan Clubs Principal Development Manager Tony Noakes welcomed the addition of car charging to the Clubs facilities and predicts this will be the first of many they will be installing. Tony commented “Many motorhome owners tow a small vehicle to aid travel around the area and small electric cars are becoming very popular, economical to run, environmentally friendly and we should be offering the service to our members.’’
UK electric car sales are currently enjoying strong growth with 265% year-on-year growth (from a low base) in pure electric vehicles sales in the first three months of 2014. This is an area that The Caravan Club sees as a being an investment for the future needs of Club members.
CPES have also developed a payment system into the EV charging points for The Club which is token operated with coded tokens available from The Wardens in reception on site.
The charging points offer two socket outlets - Type 2 Mode 3 charging at 20A and Mode 1 charging via a domestic socket outlet at 10A.
The EV Charging Point is built to exactly the same style as the pitch bollards now favoured by The Caravan Club and installed on their sites throughout The UK. These are all designed and manufactured at CPES’s factory and office facilities in Spilsby,Lincolnshirewhere the company first developed many of the standard pitch connection designs still in use today at locations throughout theUKandEurope.
Ted Waring, Director at Caravan Park Electrical commented ‘’ It has been great to be involved with this inaugural installation of EV charging points for The Caravan Club and to have been chosen as their national contractor. Everyone at CPES has worked very hard to secure this contract which nationally covers the electrical testing and inspecting on Club sites, the manufacture and supply of electrical connection bollards and the reactive repairs and maintenance of electrical systems.’’
